This is the celebrated journal of Mr. Simon Collison A.K.A Colly

And the winner is….

26th June 2005

The winner is yet to be decided. Yes, this was a joke. Sorry, readers. I’ll announce the real winner in the next two days.

not really

A huge well done to Jamie Craven from Nottingham. The badger was just too popular. Flurries of emails, calls and threats begging me to choose the badger have made my decision easy. It’s not quite what I had in mind for the Simplified Standards site, but it is the best logo submitted - by miles.

Surely it’s only a matter of time before…

I’d be able to accept that decision if it was on April 1st :)

Come on though… a badger? There were some fantastic logos submitted for this contest. That really wasn’t one of them.

I can definitely see that on the front of an O’reilly book! Very cool. But I agree with David, there were much better logos submitted (not by me, of course). What does a badger have to do with simplified standards anyways? A simpler cleaner logo would have been better, I think.

Great drawing though…very nicely done. Congrats to Jamie!

But Colly, we were joking.

Are you?

I think the ‘alt’ attribute on the logo is a but of a clue actually…

It is definitely a joke, but just imagine all the spin off logo’s that could come from this. This could start a new animal theme logo trend. Just think of the possibilities!?!

Thank god it’s just a joke, or is it? If it is, I look forward to seeing the real winner.

alt=“not really” - Made me chuckle!

What’s this about a joke? I bought a round of drinks for everyone at the pub last night to celebrate!

I’d like to say a big thank you to Colly for believing in me, and having the faith to go with this design. I hope that it integrates well with the site and helps push the cause of standards based design on the web.

commiserations to everyone else….

Someone mentioned the Alt tag gives a clue its a joke….I tried to look but as I am on firefox it needs to also have a |title tag in the img tag….now what was it we were talking about? Simplified Standards?

# Karl Dawson responded on 27th June 2005 with...

haha, classic. It does look good on the book though :p Put me out of my misery though, is it b3ta inspired?

Right click the image, properties. All attributes explained, including its alt attribute.

Also, alt is an attribute, not a tag. :)

# Dave responded on 28th June 2005 with...

must be a joke.. or a wrong alt tag

# Emma responded on 28th June 2005 with...

# Christoffer Eide responded on 29th June 2005 with...

Haha, sweet joke! You almost got me there. But man,  don’t do that again (at least wait a couple of days first, or don’t)!  :P

# Mohodin Rageh responded on 29th June 2005 with...

The Badger must be a joke. Come on. It has nothing whatsoever to do with either standards or simplicity. There must have been better submissions.

I suggest that you put on this blog all the submissions you have had and we, the public, would decide. Democracy.
